The role of memory in first and second language acquisition plays a crucial role, however, research into this role has never been very intense. The context of neuroscience, cognitive science, cognitive linguistics and psycholinguistics sheds new light on memory and its important role in foreign language learning (FLL), i.e. second language (L2) acquisition. The aim of this mini-review is, first, to bring together current cutting-edge research focusing on the topic of FLL and its connection to memory. Second, the paper also aims at hinting new ideas connected to future trends of research on the role of memory in L2 acquisition. And finally, the overall aim of this mini-review is to draw the attention of psycholinguistic scholars to the issue of memory in FLL as it has not recently gained enough attention despite the fact that the current technologies have put a lot of pressure on cognitive functions of our brain and this impact should be consistently researched.
